Eligibilty Requirments for Counselors in Training

The ADRA shall issue a CIT status to each candidate who meets the following minimum standards (click here for pdf):

Requirement #1

Is at least 18 years of age and holds a high school diploma or equivalent

Requirement #2

Is a legal resident of the United States

Requirement #3

Is not in violation of any ethical standard subscribed to by the ADRA or any other board

Requirement #4

Has not been a substance abuser or compulsive gambler for at least 2 years prior to the application date

Requirement #5

Has not been convicted of a felony (see Felony Waiver Policy)

Requirement #6

Document the completion of 180 clock hours of Substance Use Disorder/Addiction (alcohol and other drugs) specific education

Requirement #7

Obtain a supervisor*
*Must be under the supervision of a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS)

CEU Requirements for Testing

Persons testing for the AADC (LAC) or ADC (RAC & CAC) exam must have the following 300 Educational Hours completed in order to test:

180 / 300 CEUS

Document the completion of 180 clock hours of Substance Use Disorder specific education*

*LACT School provides these 180 clock hours

114 / 300 CEUS

Document the completion of 114 clock hours of Addiction or Substance Use Disorder specific education

6 / 300 CEUS

Document the completion of 6 clock hours of Professional Ethics specific education
